Chisinau, 24 November /MOLDPRES/ - Russia’s attacks in Ukraine hit each citizen of Moldova. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has made statements to this effect following a discussion with Ambassador of Russia to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov, who was summoned at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) today.

According to Deputy PM Nicu Popescu, Oleg Vasnetsov was summoned, in order to express Moldova’s protest against the bombardment of the Ukrainian civilian infrastructure targets, which triggered penury of electricity.

„We condemn the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. Moldova is one of the worst hit countries by this war. On 23 November, practically the entire country was in blackout during more hours, in the wake of bombardments in Ukraine. The war hits each citizen of Moldova, no matter the political or geopolitical preferences,’’ Nicu Popescu said.

During his discussion to the Russian ambassador in Chisinau, the foreign affairs minister said that Russia must cease the bombardments. ‘’Unfortunately, Russia has another position. We firmly condemned the attacks. Our citizens are affected by the lack of electric energy, economic crisis and the high price for energy. We are united in the wish to have peace on the territory of our country,’’ the official stressed.

At the same time, MAEIE conveyed emergency instructions to the heads of Moldova’s diplomatic missions, in order to inform the partners about the major impact of this situation.

Massive interruptions of power supply were registered all over Moldova on 23 November, in the wake of Russia’s bombardment against the energy system of Ukraine. A similar situation took place on 15 November, when there were also disconnections following Russian bombardments against the Ukrainian energy system.
