Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister of Lithuania  Ingrida Šimonytė has reiterated Lithuania’s support for Moldova and its government. She said that her country was with Moldova, being a supporter of all the country’s aspirations to get rid of Russia’s dependence and join the European family. The Lithuanian PM made statements to this effect at a news briefing held by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita jointly with her Vilnius counterpart.

„One year ago, Moldova was facing a provocative situation and presently we already witness a nightmare triggered by Russia in Ukraine, which affects the entire world. I have come up with a message of support on behalf of Lithuania for Moldova, which faces more crises in this context, suffering and reacting in the wake of the attacks of Russian missiles against Ukraine, which hit the energy security of Moldova. Lithuania had these problems and it knows what to be blackmailed by Russia means. It is difficult to implement reforms, but this strengthens the country and Moldova has chances to succeed,’’ the Lithuanian prime minister said.

For her part, Natalia Gavrilita expressed gratitude for maintaining Moldova on the list of priority states of assistance for development, provided by Lithuania, as well as the continuous support Moldova is benefiting from in the implementation of the structural reforms nationally.

„The government I lead has already managed to undertake more concrete steps for consolidating the cooperation relations with our Lithuanian partners. I want to offer thanks to Lithuania for the constant support provided to Moldova in the advancement of the dialogue with the European Union, as Lithuania is one of the partners close to our country,’’ the Moldovan PM stressed.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė today pays a working visit to Chisinau and is to have meetings with Moldova’s top leadership. In late 2021, the Lithuanian PM also visited Moldova and attended the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Lithuanian Foreign Affairs Ministry and Moldova’s Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry. This document is meant to help strengthen the institutional and governance capacity in Moldova, representing just one of the string of actions on the bilateral Moldovan-Lithuanian agenda of cooperation.
