Moldovan parliament speaker meets Ambassador of Iceland

Chisinau, 29 November /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had a meeting with Moscow-based Ambassador of Iceland to Moldova Árni Þór Sigurðsson. The discussions were focused on topical subjects, among which the energy crisis and the security situation in the region, the parliament’s communication and public relations department reported.

Igor Grosu thanked the Icelandic diplomat for the support provided to Moldova and expressed interest in turning to good account the cooperation between Moldova and Iceland, especially the inter-parliamentary one.  

The officials also discussed the consequences of Russia’s invasion in Ukraine and the energy crisis faced by Moldova. ‘’Given that the energy security regards including the state’s security, we want to invest in this sector. We are interested in any experience and the priority is the renewable energy,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.

Another subject tackled at the meeting was the humanitarian crisis. ‘’We will further help the Ukrainians. We do not rule out that there will be another flow of refugees on the next period. It is about women, children and elderly people, who will need our support,’’ the speaker said.   

Moscow-based Ambassador of Iceland to Moldova Árni Þór Sigurðsson is on a visit to Moldova on 29 November – 2 December, on the occasion of the inauguration of Iceland’s Honorary Consulate in Chisinau.
