New case of African swine fever detected in central district of Moldova

Chisinau, 2 December /MOLDPRES/ - The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) today informed about the identification of one case of African swine fever registered in Moldova. Thus, competent people confirmed, through laboratory tests, the African swine fever virus (ASFV) in samples collected from domestic pigs at a unit of porcines placed on the area outside the village Soltanesti, central Nisporeni district

According to ANSA, the epidemiological investigation is underway and is carried out by a team of inspectors of the Ungheni territorial food safety subdivision, which covers the Nisporeni district, in cooperation with other competent institutions of the state.  

„The Commission for Emergency Situations of the Nisporeni district established quarantine measures, competent people carry out measures of eradicating the hotbed, with the involvement of all district structures and ANSA central level specialists. Restrictions areas were established around the hotbed (protection area of 3 km and supervision area of 10 km). Competent people carry out the census of the domestic pigs in the protection and supervision areas, the control of the reservoirs of the wild fauna, control of the movement of porcines and the food products made of pork in Moldova, the screening of the domestic pigs from the hotbed,’’ ANSA noted.      

The National Food Safety Agency asks the owners of porcines to urgently inform the competent authorities, physicians veterinaries or local public authorities, if animals fall sick and perish or corpses of wild boars are detected. Also, ANSA asks owners of pigs not to use in their food culinary remains and observe the minimal requirements of biosecurity.
