Chisinau, Dec. 3 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița participated on Friday in an action to collect donations for women who have suffered as a result of domestic violence. The charity event took place on the international campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Five paintings made by a group of women survivors of domestic violence in an art therapy workshop were exhibited at the tender.

Participants listened to the painful stories behind the artworks and made donations to support the victims. The collected resources will be invested in the economic empowerment program, implemented by the Women's Law Center, for the counseling and placement of the beneficiaries in the field of work.

"Our belief is that all women and girls who have gone through episodes of violence must benefit from full protection and safety from the state. The government will continue to support the creation of institutions to help women and children. This year, in Bălți, we opened the first Regional Assistance Center for child victims and witnesses of crimes. I also want to note the enormous role of civil society in promoting women's rights and express my appreciation for the efforts made by the employees of the Women's Law Center, so that this phenomenon is known, understood and taken over by state institutions, and so that women to feel all the support they need", said Gavrilița.

The event was organized by the Women's Law Center, with the financial support of Sweden and the OAk Foundation. Annually, about 800 women and girls receive free and confidential support from the team of lawyers, psychologists and social workers from the Women's Law Center.
