Moldovan premier discusses with leader of European People's Party's group in European Parliament

Chisinau, 7 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita has had a bilateral meeting with Leader of the group of the European People’s Party (EPP), EPP President, European MP Manfred Weber, during her official visit to Germany, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.  

The Moldovan PM thanked the German official for the support provided to Moldova in the process of getting the status of country candidate for accession to EU. Gavrilita emphasized also the progress recorded by the cabinet in the commitment to fulfill those nine conditions for starting the negotiations on accession.  

Natalia Gavrilita also referred to the economic, social and security situation in Moldova, as well as the challenges dealing with the management of the energy crisis, as a result of the war started by Russia against Ukraine. In the context, the prime minister touched upon the government’s actions to back the residents hit by the increase in prices for energy resources and natural gas, as well as for de-blocking the logistic chains and reorienting the export of Moldovan products to the EU area.     

Natalia Gavrilita expressed gratitude for the constant support provided by EU through the Moldova Support Platform and reiterated the country’s interest in the purchasing of natural gas on the EU Joint Purchasing Platform to Secure Supply of Gas, LNG and Hydrogen.   

„The access to this Platform will allow us consolidate the process of ensuring Moldova’s energy security, affected by Russia’s blackmail. Despite the fact that we were toughly hit by the increase in prices and reduction of the volume of natural gas supplied by Gazprom, we continue to firmly look into a European future,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said at the discussions.    

MEP Manfred Weber reiterated the European Parliament’s support in the implementation of the reforms’ agenda and appreciated the Moldovan government’s effort in the process of management of the chain of crises which hit Moldova.
