Chisinau, 20 January /MOLDPRES/ - The researchers of the National Agency of Archives (ANA) will have access to the Vatican Apostolic Archive.

According to ANA, Moldova’s Ambassador to the Holy See Alexandru Codreanu has had a meeting with Archbishop, librarian and archivist of the Catholic Church Angelo Vincenzo Zani, the prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Library, Cesare Pasini and the prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Archive, Sergio Pagano.

At the meeting, the ambassador proposed to start a bilateral cooperation with competent institutions from Moldova, including the National Library and the National Agency of Archives. Thus, ANA director Igor Casu sent a letter, thereby showing interest in taking over the experience of preservation and restoration of the archive heritage, including the turning to good account of the documents preserved at the Vatican Apostolic Archive.

Following the request, Archbishop Angelo Vincenzo Zani and Sergio Pagano expressed openness for the access of ANA researchers to the Apostolic Archive. At the same time, they showed willingness to approve the access of researchers from Moldova to the institution’s open archives, which can be made based on a scheduling on the webpage www.archivioapostolicovaticano.va.

They also informed that the specialized schools were opened for those interested in deep study. It is about the Vatican School of Librarianship and the Vatican School of Paleography, Diplomatics and Archivistics.

The Vatican Apostolic Library is the state library of the Holy See; it is one of the oldest libraries in the world, with important historical texts. The Vatican Apostolic Archive has been working for more than 400 years and is one of the most important and famous research centres in the world.
