Moldovan peacekeepers return from mission in Kosovo

Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/ - The National Army’s KFOR-17 Contingent has returned to Moldova, after it fulfilled the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.   

At an official ceremony held at the Military Camp 142, the peacekeepers were handed distinctions and diplomas.  

Attending the event, Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii congratulated those 41 servicemen for the contribution to the keeping of peace and stability internationally. ‘’I kept a close eye on your service in the KFOR peacekeeping operation and I found out that, during six months of stay in Kosovo, you fulfilled your duty professionally. At the same time, now, upon your return to  military units, I urge you to share with your colleagues the experience gained from peacekeepers of other armies with whom you worked in the mission,’’ Minister Nosatii said.     

Attending the event were also Head of the General Staff, brigade general Eduard Ohladciuc, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon, Ambassador of Italy to Moldova Lorenzo Tomassoni, as well as the corps of military attaches accredited to Moldova.   

On 18 January 2023, a ceremony on exchange of authority between the contingents of Moldovan peacekeepers took place at the Camp Villaggio military base in the Pech settlement, in the presence of the Western Regional Command, on 18 January this year. The KFOR-17 contingent, made up of 41 military, was on mission in Kosovo starting from July 2022; the peacekeepers fulfilled missions of security and guard, patrol and engineering.
