Chisinau, 26 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita  today asked the competent authorities, including the Financial Inspection, to verify the correctness of the use of funds by the stock company Apa-Canal Chisinau water supply enterprise and the reasons for the appearance of the debts.

The PM made the request after the state capital enterprise Premier Energy Ltd today had informed that more consumption points of the stock company Apa-Canal Chisinau, including the ones where the water supply enterprise has its administrative headquarters, would be disconnected from power supply because of the debts.

„I have learned with concern that there is the risk for the consumers of the capital to be disconnected from water supply. I will ask the competent authorities, including the Financial Inspection, to verify the correctness of the funds’ use by the administration of Apa-Canal, subordinated to the Chisinau city hall, and the reasons for the appearance of the debts. The city hall must assume the citizens’ problems, find solutions to these problems and not to try to put their own failures at the expense of the others,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

According to Premier Energy, the overall debt of Apa-Canal Chisinau is already 73.2 million lei (3.65 million euros), of which 44.7 million lei according to the invoices with expired term.

The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) has recently approved the increase in tariffs for the public water supply service. The Chisinau general mayor, Ion Ceban, at that time said that the increases made were not sufficient for covering the expenses and warned about the risk for the capital to remain without water.
