Chisinau, 26 January /MOLDPRES/ - A community service of firemen will be developed in the Sireti and Roscani villages, central Straseni district. The project’s overall value is 266,000 dollars and will be implemented with the support of the U.S. Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Moldova  and My Community Programme.

Presently, in case of fire, the firemen service of Straseni and the one from Chisinau need about 40 minutes to arrive in Sireti and in certain cases, they cannot come because of the overload, especially in spring and autumn, when more vegetation fires occur. Since 2019, 40 fires have been registered in the Sireti village alone and the Firemen Services from Straseni and Chisinau were able to intervene only in three of these fires.

The settlements plan to reorganize the municipal enterprise through including the firemen unit in the operational structure. At present, the municipal enterprise provides common services, such as collection of solid waste to both settlements. The community service of firemen will be provided with basic staff and the recruiting of at least 18 volunteers trained and endowed with protection equipment is envisaged.

The project sees the extension of the garage for the servicing of the special vehicle and preserving the fire extinguishing equipment, as well as the reconstruction of the roof of the garage from the Roscani community, which will serve as firemen unit. At the same time, the network of fire hydrants will be extended, with 11 new hydrants due to be set in the Sireti village and another four ones in the Roscani village.
