International contest dedicated to great Moldova-born soprano, actress to be held in Chisinau

Chisinau, 6 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Culture Ministry, Moldovan Musicians’ Union, Teleradio-Moldova Company and the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre (TNOB) organize the first edition of the international TV and radio competition of opera singers. The contest will bear the name of one of the most prominent artistic personalities of the 20th century - soprano Maria Cebotari – the former prima donna of the State Opera and Volksopera of Vienna. She was born in Chisinau and was a cinema singer and actress, who surprised the entire world through her talent.        

According to the organizers, on 8 and 10 February at 18:00, the final stage of the contest’s gala of laureates will take place at TNOB.  

Sixteen competitors selected out of 60 candidates, from South Korea, Germany, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine will perform on the stage of the Opera Theatre from Chisinau.  

The jury members were elected artists from the field, dedicated personalities of Moldova and the countries where soprano Maria Cebotari worked. The head of the jury is the conductor, composer and academician Gheorghe Mustea.  

The honorary guest of the contest is the son of Maria Cebotari Fritz Diessl-Curzon.     

The gala concert of the laureates will take place at the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre on 10 February.
