Border police fined air operators of about 6 million lei

Chisinau, Feb. 8 /MOLDPRES/- Last year, the Border Police fined air operators of about 6 million lei (almost 300 thousand euros).

According to the institution, in the Chisinau International Airport, law enforcers have registered an increase in the number of contraventional processes initiated against air operators. If 22 cases were recorded in 2021, last year their number was 137, which is an increase of over 600%. Thus, the amount of fines applied in 2021 was 690 thousand lei, of which 600 thousand lei were collected, and last year fines of 5.9 million lei were applied, of which 1.8 million lei were collected.

The air operators were sanctioned for bringing to the Republic of Moldova foreign citizens or stateless persons who do not have a valid visa or a valid residence permit and a state border crossing document, recognized or accepted by our country.

The fines provided for by the Criminal Code vary from 9,000 to 15,000 lei, in case of committing the violation for the first time. The repeated one is sanctioned with 30 thousand lei, and for the third time or more a fine of 45 thousand lei is applied.
