Consumers to have access to more detailed information on food products purchased in Moldova

Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - Consumers will have access to more detailed information on the food products purchased. In this respect, the government today approved the completion and improvement of the national normative framework with provisions concerning the labeling of substances and ingredients which cause allergies or intolerance, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Also, the food sector operators will be obliged to adjust the labels to the explicit provisions on the product’s origin country, for the cases when the primary ingredient has another origin than the end product.
A voluntary requirement of labeling is the indication of the mention, Nourished without genetically modified organisms (GMO), or Nourished without GMO for fowl/pork and products with a content of meat higher than 50 per cent, as well as for the consumption eggs.
The delivery of information on food products is aimed at ensuring a high level of protection of the health and interests of consumers. Citizens will be able to make a choice with full knowledge of the case, taking into account sanitary, economic, ecological, social considerations, etc.
