Moldovan PM attends General Assembly of Farmers' Force Association

Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean has expressed a message of support for the agricultural branch at the General Assembly of the Farmers’ Force Association, held in Chisinau at the headquarters of the Labour Institute. The event brought together the leadership of the Association, members of the cabinet and the parliament, agriculturists and farmers from Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.       

In his message delivered to the farmers, PM Dorin Recean said the government would develop the agricultural branch, in step with the measures of economic and investment growth, of planning the regional development and enhancing the labour productivity in all sectors. According to the prime minister, the speeding up of the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union will contribute to the de-blocking of additional funds meant including for the agricultural producers and exporters.    

„The agriculture is more than just a business; it is part of our social culture. With the climate changes, the agriculture is subjected to more risks; therefore, it is necessary that we increase the agricultural productivity and contribute to the enhancing of the accessibility of investments funds in agriculture. We will solve the problems step by step; we will insist that the subsidies should be allocated for enhancing the productivity and the acceleration of the process of integration into EU will give us possibility to access more funds and investments in the agriculture sector,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.     

The prime minister also said that the cabinet would revise the way the subsidies were provided in agriculture, so that the small and medium-sized producers are favoured.    

The executive director of the Farmers’ Force Association, Alexandru Slusari, thanked PM Recean for the openness showed and reiterated the need for the government to quickly intervene, in order to adopt additional measures for backing the agricultural branch.   

„We are happy that the first public meeting of new Moldova’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean takes place here, at the Assembly of the Farmers’ Force Association. During nine months of work, we have managed to contribute to the adoption of the law on the reimbursement of the value added tax (VAT) and the draft on the subsidization in agriculture and rural environment. We want a European agricultural branch and we rely on the government’s support to achieve this goal,’’ Alexandru Slusari noted.     

Among the main claims of the Association, participants in the Assembly emphasized the increase of the National Fund for Agriculture Development up to at least 3 billion lei, prioritizing the subsidization of small- and medium-sized farmers, de-blocking of European funds for the compensation of farmers’ losses, help in form of diesel.    

Prime Minister Dorin Recean said the government would continue the active dialogue with the farmers and reiterated the cabinet’s openness in the process of agriculture’s transformation and development.
