Moldovan, German officials approach current issues

Chisinau, 23 Feb. /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian met with Merle Spellerberg, member of the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Party in the German Bundestag, accompanied by Margaret Uebber, German Ambassador to Moldova, the Reintegration Policy Office has reported.

The officials discussed many issues on the Transnistrian case, the current issues on the negotiation agenda, Chisinau's position on how to resolve them.

They made clarifications on the new provisions of the criminal legislation criminalizing separatism, with the remark that they are meant to strengthen the country's security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, do not affect the negotiation process and represent the application of already existing constitutional regulations.

The precarious situation of human rights in the Transnistrian region was pointed out, where many citizens are persecuted and illegally deprived of their freedom for expressing critical opinions, and the access of journalists from the right bank is restricted.
