Agro-industrial sector to be supported by development partners in coming years

Chisinau, February 24 /MOLDPRES/- A meeting of Ministers of Agriculture from the member states of the European Union, investors and donors who finance the national agricultural sector will be organized in Chisinau this autumn with the support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The announcement was made yesterday, at the first meeting of the high-level development partners of the sectoral council for coordination of external assistance in agriculture and development.

"The approval of the National Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development 2023-2030 is an important step in prioritizing donor interventions in agriculture, including the development of FAO's Country Framework Program for the next four years. FAO will continue to provide technical assistance for the implementation of the Strategy and supports the ministry in emergency aid interventions for agricultural producers, through direct support and the mobilization of funds", said FAO representative in the Republic of Moldova Raimund Jehle.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry said "the wishes proposed by the Government and expressly reflected in the main strategic planning document can only be achieved through effective collaboration with all the subjects trained in this segment". "Thus, with secure and stable financing from the state, with the involvement of the private sector, development partners and the donor community, we will strengthen the agricultural sector, develop the food industry and diversify the markets, as well as ensure the transposition of the community acquis and its progressive implementation", Vladimir Bolea said.

The National Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development 2023-2030 was approved last week by the Executive. The main objectives of the document are the development of the agricultural sector, the strengthening of food safety and security, the provision of better well-being and living conditions in the rural environment, as well as the alignment with the Community acquis.
