Chisinau, March 10. /MOLDPRES/- The Action and Solidarity Party has become an associate member of the European People's Party, having been promoted from the status of an observer member to that of an associate member of the EPP.
The decision was taken today by the EPP Political Assembly that takes place in Helsinki (Finland), as a result of the Republic of Moldova obtaining the status of a candidate country for EU accession. As an associate member of the European People's Party, PAS will have voting rights within the EPP, will be part of all party structures and will be able to participate in important decisions of the largest European political family.
"This promotion is proof of the progress achieved by the PAS team in protecting the interests of the Republic of Moldova. The European People's Party and all its member parties are the faithful allies of PAS and Moldova in our European path", the press release issued by PAS reads.
MEP Siegfried Mureșan said that Moldova's integration into European institutions and structures is progressing. "Through this new position, Moldova's voice will be heard even more strongly on the European level. The more active role within the EPP will allow PAS to work closely with political leaders from European Union countries and to get easier support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova", Mureșan said.
PAS currently holds the majority in Chisinau Parliament and has been supporting a pro-European and pro-reform government for two years.
