Chisinau, March 14. /MOLDPRES/- Speeding up the economic development of rural localities, promoting exports of agri-food products, adopting modern production and processing technologies, developing the horticultural and wine sector and adjusting policies for high-value sectors - are the directions that the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) will be focused with the USAID support.

The priorities were set at a yesterday's meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, the head of the MAIA, and Mark Simakovsky, the Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia at USAID, and Scott Hocklander, USAID Moldova Director.

"The challenges in the agricultural sector are complex, and USAID's support is significant for the continuation of reforms in agriculture and rural development. Promoting entrepreneurial culture in rural areas is a priority in the policies we promote. The population from rural areas, unfortunately, tends to migrate to urban centers or economically developed countries. Agriculture, the processing of agricultural products, animal husbandry and agro-tourism provide job creation opportunities for citizens in rural areas. We aim to increase agricultural activities and maintain the population in the countryside", Vladimir Bolea said.

The collaboration in the next period between the Ministry of Agriculture and USAID will mainly be carried out within the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Project.
