Chisinau, March 14. /MOLDPRES/- In the next ten years, the areas of forested land will be expanded by about 150 thousand hectares, both on new land and on heavily degraded forest land, publicly owned or, for the first time, on privately owned land. The provisions are set in the national programme on extension, rehabilitation of forests for 2023-2032, which was published in the Official Journal of Moldova today.

In the long term, the Program aims to mitigate climate change and carbon emissions, reduce soil degradation, preserve precious soils, and have a positive dynamics of sediments in the hydrographic network.

The Environment Ministry will present by 30 June 2028 the intermediate evaluation report on implementation of the Program and by 30 June 2033 - the final assessment report.

Currently, in the Republic of Moldova, the forested surface occupies 11% of the country's territory, while the average degree of forestation in the EU is 37.7%.
