Moldovan deputy PM attends ceremony on commemorating heroes dead on Cosnita plateau

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian today participated in a ceremony on commemorating the people who had died on the Cosnita plateau in the fights for the defence of Moldova’s independence and territorial integrity in the spring of 1992, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
The event was held nearby the monument of the heroes dead For the Country, For the Nation. Attending the action were representatives of the parliament, Interior Ministry, Defence Mministry, district and local public administration, Dubasari Police Inspectorate and Moldova’s Delegation to the Joint Control Commission, war veterans and local residents.
In his speech, Oleg Serebrian said that Moldova had not been defeated in the war at Dniester, even if the forces were unequal. Due to the temerity of those who defended the country’s sovereignty on those days, we managed to maintain Moldova on the way leading to democracy and freedom. The Transnistria war frustrated out evolution, but was not able to stop us on our way. At the same time, the deputy PM said the Moldovan authorities did their utmost for the shadow of war to no longer hang over Moldova.
Oleg Serebrian thanked, on behalf of the government, the veterans of the Transnistria war for the devotion with which they had served the country, for the sacrifice made for our present and future.
Following the commemorative event, the deputy PM had a meeting with local public administration’s representatives of the Dubasari district. The sides reviewed the present situation in the district and the problems faced by the residents of the region, including the war veterans and the families of the people who had died in battles.
