Moldovan president convenes Supreme Security Council on emergency in judiciary system

Chisinau, 17 March /MOLDPRES/- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu announced today that she has convened the Supreme Security Council on 20 March as regards emergency in the judiciary system.
"The General Assembly of Judges has postponed the appointment of members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM). I understand that the judges have decided to block the cleaning of the judiciary and to continue to obstruct the restoration of justice in Moldova. I announce I will convene the Supreme Security Council on Monday at 2:00 pm, in connection with the emergency in the judiciary," Maia Sandu said.
The General Assembly of Judges, convened today after a four-year break, was interrupted by April 28. The decision was taken after five hours of discussions in which the judges decided to draft a statement to be submitted to the relevant authorities. In addition, the election of CSM members has been postponed.
