Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - The MOLDPRES State News Agency today signed an agreement on cooperation with the AGERPRES News Agency of Romania. The document provides for the mutual spread of pieces of news, photographs and information products.

The agreement was signed in Chisinau, during an official visit by Agerpres Director Claudia Victoria Nicolae. At the same time, attending the meeting was Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu.

At the event, Moldpres Director Petru Beregoi thanked the Agerpres leadership and the ambassador of Romania in Chisinau for the openness proved to sign this cooperation agreement. ‘’The document lays the foundations of a long-lasting cooperation between Agerpres and Moldpres. This agreement will boost the relations between the two institutions through reciprocal exchange of media products. We want an efficient cooperation for the development of those two news agencies. At the same time, we are happy that, after a period of stagnation of the relations between Moldpres and Agerpres, this agreement will lay the foundations of the resumption of the exchange of information,’’ Petru Beregoi said.

For her part, Director of the Agerpres Agency Claudia Victoria Nicolae stressed that the two press institutions were official information sources. ‘’Agerpres and Moldpres are state news agencies, which confirms the presentation of absolutely truthful information, taken over also by international media institutions. Romania and Moldova are countries with common traditions and values and the mutual exchange of media information is welcome and imperative,’’ Claudia Victoria Nicolae said.

Following the foundation of Moldpres, the first act on cooperation was signed with Agerpres, on 20 May 1992, between Moldova-pres and Rompres at that time.

The AGERPRES National News Agency is the oldest Romanian news agency and the first autonomous agency of Romania. The institution was founded in March 1889, with the name, Telegraph Agency of Romania or Romanian Agency, with the role to disseminate in the country an ‘’accurate and quick service of all pieces of news of general or special interest.’’ Agerpres holds the biggest archive of photos from Romania. In 2013, the agency went through a process of rebranding as to the orientation to the online environment, enrichment of the multimedia zone, with an attractive video platform and introduction of the concept of total journalism.

At the same time, discussions are held with the news agencies of Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Georgia and Armenia for the signing of similar agreements.
