Chisinau, May 18. /MOLDPRES/- Moldova has increased the budget for defense and security and has a clear plan to increase defense capacity. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made the statement at the Security Forum in the Black Sea and Balkans region, held in Bucharest.

The Prime Minister specified that the Republic of Moldova is under hybrid attack. "Yes, there are no rockets falling in Chisinau, but the country is under hybrid attack: propaganda, cyber attacks, paid protests to provoke and destabilize the Republic of Moldova, inter-ethnic hatred actively promoted by Russian channels. We have strengthened the capacities of the institutions to face these challenges, and now we must focus on the security agenda and the economic agenda in parallel. The Republic of Moldova has made a huge leap in terms of understanding the status of neutrality and that it cannot defend you where it is not respected", said Recean.

At the same time, he said that there are discussions in society regarding the defense capacity of our country, which must be strengthened. "In the Republic of Moldova, a discussion started that other countries are also having. There are states that were neutral and now, in the regional context, understand that they must be part of a collective security architecture. This discussion has started and is now quite active in Chisinau society as well, and I have also assumed a special role in this regard so that we can have an open and honest discussion with the citizens, so that we can explain which it is the context in which the Republic of Moldova must ensure its long-term security. It is true that we still have a lot of work to do in this regard, but we understand that we have to do this particular thing now", he said.

Recean pays a working visit to Romania on May 17-18.
