European Commission to help Moldova make natural gas procurements for next winter

Chisinau, 23 May /MOLDPRES/ - The European Commission will help Moldova make procurements of natural gas for the next winter through the EU’s Energy Platform. With the assistance of the European Union, the Moldovan government will develop the energy vulnerability fund, in order to help the most vulnerable consumers pay the services in the 2023-2024 heating season. The subjects were discussed at the fourth Moldova-European Union high-level meeting in the energy sector, held in Brussels today.

At the same time, Moldova will continue implementing the European legislation, to invest in energy interconnection lines, in order to better integrate into EU, to develop and turn to account the potential of the green energy and make progress in the energy efficiency, de-carbonization sector. The ensuring of the security of supply stays, in continuation, on the top of priorities, the Energy Ministry said.

The action plan on preparation for the next winter was on the agenda of the discussions in Brussels as well. In particular, the sides pointed to the development of the local capacities of producing electric and thermal energy. In the context, the Energy Ministry’s leadership highlighted the construction of two new cogeneration stations, - investment projects which are to start in Chisinau with the support of international partners.

„To have lower invoices for energy, we must consumer more rationally and not allow the waste of resources, if not needed. The cheapest energy is the one which we did not consume. I was given assurances in Brussels that the European Union would help us to this end,’’ Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said.

Moldova also commits to advance in the taking over and transposition of the Clean Energy Package for all Europeans, by reducing the volume of greenhouse gas emissions. In this respect, the Moldovan side said that one of the present priorities was the reformation of the Agency for Energy Efficiency. The latter is to launch and extend programmes of vouchers for the change of household appliances and Green House.
