Moldovan, European officials approach current issues

Chisinau, May 26. /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration had a meeting with director-general for European neighborhood and enlargement negotiations within the European Commission Gert Jan Koopman, which was also attended by representatives of the State Chancellery, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Anti-Corruption Center, the Competition Council, the Audiovisual Council and the Inter-Ethnic Relations Agency, the MAEIE press service has reported.
The meeting was dedicated to the implementation by the Republic of Moldova of the nine recommendations proposed by the European Commission in June 2022 in its Opinion on application for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union. The progress in our country's implementation of the recommendations regarding deoligarization, increasing administrative capacities, managing public finances and increasing the involvement of civil society in decision-making processes were discussed in detail.
Popescu said that the implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission was throughout the process after obtaining the status of a candidate for EU accession and remains a priority of the authorities. "We have been able to achieve significant progress in implementing the recommendations and continue to work on their implementation to ensure the sustainability of the impact. We hope that the efforts of the Republic of Moldova will constitute a solid basis for the European Commission to recommend, in the fall of 2023, the launch of accession negotiations", he said.
Gert Jan Koopman welcomed the efforts of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and reiterated the importance of allocating adequate human and financial resources to ensure the sustainability of the reforms.
