Chisinau, 26 May /MOLDPRES/ - Azerbaijan hopes to sign a peace agreement with Armenia in Chisinau on 1 June, where the Summit of the European Political Community (EPC) will be held. Ambassador of Azerbaijan to France Leyla Abdullayeva has made statements to this effect.
„In Chisinau on 1 June, we hope that a peace treaty can be eventually signed. This is a historical moment, which cannot be missed,’’ Leyla Abdullayeva said in Paris.
According to diplomatic sources, quoted by Reuters, at the EPC Summit in Chisinau, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev are to hold high-level discussions with President of France Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
In early May this year, Armenia and Azerbaijan started delicate peace talks on the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, under the auspices of the United States, in Washington. The two countries clashed in two conflicts in early 1990s and in 2020 for control over the enclave – a mountainous region which separated from Azerbaijan three decades ago.
