Chisinau, 26 May /MOLDPRES/ - The National Public Health Agency (ANSP) today informed about the confirmation of a case of measles, after a three-year period, with the last one recorded on 25 March 2020.

According to ANSP, the measles case was confirmed in a 43-year-old person from Chisinau, who has recently come from a travel abroad.

Measles is an extremely contagious infection, transmitted by air from the sick person.

Non-vaccinated children pose a very high risk to get sick and develop complications, the most frequent ones being laryngitis, pneumonia, meningitis.

The vaccination against measles in Moldova is below the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

The vaccination is the only way parents can protect their children against measles, as there is no specific treatment against this infection. A single dose of vaccine is efficient at the level of 97 per cent to prevent the disease.
