Natural gas stocks to be increased in Moldova

Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ - The government today adopted a decision on increasing the security gas stocks from 22.8 million cubic metres to 45.6 million cubic metres, or from four days of average consumption on the winter period to eight days.    

„These stocks are mean for consumption only in emergency situations and do not refer to all stocks of Energocom. It is about the gradual enhancement of the energy security and we are to get up to stocks of 10 days of average consumption on the winter period,’’ Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said.  

Starting from 2016, the government has been annually establishing the exact quantity which is to set as security stocks. The gas stocks for the first time ever were created in 2022, in the context of the energy crisis, and were deposited in Ukraine and Romania. The cabinet nominated the Energocom stock company as entity for the creation and maintenance of the security stocks.      

The government decision sees that these stocks will be created till 1 October 2023, with the costs due to be covered, as a priority, from the financial contributions paid by the providers on the retails market of natural gas.
