Chisinau, 5 June /MOLDPRES/ - The assessment of the climate vulnerability for the Lower Prut Biosphere Reserve and the evaluation of the impact on the environment were subjects tackled by representatives of the EcoContact Public Association at an environmental conference held in Chisinau today. The event, organized by the Environment Ministry, in partnership with EcoContact and National Environment Centre, is meant to inaugurate the Green Week and to start actions carried out on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
President Maia Sandu participated in the official opening of the event. ‘’We are lucky to congratulate each other and speak about good days. But if we are not aware of the seriousness of the environmental problems and of we do not act urgently, the days will not be better for our children. As the environmental problems are not abstract notions, which are discussed at the conference; the environmental problems have serious implications for our daily life; if we do not act well enough, these environmental problems will have serious implications for the future,’’ Maia Sandu said.
For her part, Environment Minister Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov said that the slogan of the event was ‘’Less plastic, more biodiversity. ‘’The slogan reminds us that we are responsible to reduce the negative impact of our activity on the fragile ecosystems. The plastic, in particular, has become a global problem, polluting the waters, the soils, as well as the biodiversity. Only by taking concrete measures, we will reduce the use of plastic and will promote sustainable alternatives and measures in the daily life,’’ Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov said.
The today’s meeting, dedicated to the environment, provided a framework for discussing subjects on the rational use of natural resources, climate changes and environmental protection. In the context, the participants brought for discussion such subjects as: conservation and enhancement of the biodiversity, circular economy and green transition, climate changes and de-carbonization, as well as the good governance in the environmental protection sector.
The conference titled, Environmental challenges and sustainable development, brought together state officials, ambassadors, representatives of central public authorities, associative sector, academic environment, mass media, as well as of the business environment.
