Draft on return of taxes to economic agents in Găgăuzia submitted to consultations

Chisinau, August 14 /MOLDPRES/- The draft law stipulating that the return of taxes and fees to economic agents from the autonomous unit will be made from the budget of the autonomous territorial unit was publicly consulted. The talks were attended by MPs of the economy, budget and finance commission and the public administration and regional development commission, deputies of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia, State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Olga Golban and other officials.

According to the mechanism, if after the end of the budget year, the amount of refunds for taxes and fees exceeds the amount of receipts, then the difference will be compensated by special purpose transfers from the state budget in the following budget year.

"The essence of the project is to have more fairness and equity in tax administration between different localities in the country. We are trying to create conditions for a reasonable compromise in society and between regions", said one of the authors of the bill, Radu Marian, president of the Economy, Budget and Finance Commission.

The proposals formulated during the consultations are to be discussed by the authors of the initiative in the preparation of the draft law for the second reading. The government proposed the law to enter into force on October 1, 2023.

According to official information, the amounts of VAT returned from the state budget are constantly increasing and, in the last five years alone, the state budget has reimbursed more than 640 million lei (32 million euros) as VAT amount to UTAG.
