Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) so far has received information about 121 farmers who would have difficulties in fulfilling their contractual obligations to creditors, including commercial banks, non-bank institutions and providers. The state secretary at MAIA, head of the commission for analyzing the problems invoked by the farmers at the last November protests Vasile Sarban unveiled data to this effect today.

„The information collected by MAIA about the farmers at risk will be made available to the creditors for consideration, but this remains their prerogative in continuation, as MAIA cannot intervene in the contractual relation between two economic agents,’’ Vasile Sarban noted.

The official also said that, at the next meeting of the commission for the analysis of the problems invoked by farmers, creditors would be supposed ‘’to come up with clear-cut solutions on how can we intervene, in order not to worsen the situation of agricultural producers.’’

At the same time, MAIA asked the district agricultural departments for information on the number of farmers hit by the last year droughts, the area concerned, the crops affected and the level of their damage. ‘’We will collect the data, we will make an analysis and we will come up with other solutions,’’ the state secretary at MAIA added.

The commission for analyzing the problems invoked by the farmers at the last November protests started its work in early December. The commission is made up of representatives from more institutions, who analyze the present problems and will propose measures for their settlement.
