Several categories of public sector employees to benefit increased salaries in Moldova

Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/ - Several categories of public sector employees will benefit from equalized salaries. The parliament today adopted, in the second reading, a draft on the amendment of the Law on the single salary payment system in the public sector.   

Thus, in the context of the implementation of a Decision by the Constitutional Court, the categories of payment of salaries to some civil servants from the Superior Council of Magistracy, Supreme Court of Justice, courts of appeal, law courts, Constitutional Court will be increased and adjusted to the level of the salary of the civil servants from other authorities. The specific increase is suggested to be diminished from 60 to 40 per cent for the same categories of civil servants.  

Also, decision-makers will make adjustings to legislation for several categories of employees of the territorial offices of the State Chancellery, as well as of the State Labour Inspectorate, in the context of the proposal on the enforcement and increase of the reference value. Another provision of the draft is the increase in the quantum of the minimum salary on the country to 5,000 lei as of 1 January 2024, which is applicable both to the public sector and the real one. Respectively, the employees due to have salaries lower than 5,000 lei will benefit from compensatory payments.     

For the second reading, the parliament introduced an amendment which envisages that the mayors, deputy mayors and the secretaries of the local council will receive an increase worth 50 per cent of the basic salary. The proposal belongs to a lawmaker of the Action and Solidarity Party, Ersilia Qatrawi, and is aimed at strengthening the managerial capacities.     

Fifty eight MPs voted for the legislative initiative in the second reading.
