Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has participated in a public event at the headquarters of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), during which the Moldovan diplomacy head, Nicu Popescu, resigned from office, the presidential press service has reported.
„Today, I handed over the highest state distinction – the Order of the Republic – to Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, a visionary diplomat and probably the most outstanding foreign affairs and European integration minister Moldova has ever had,’’ President Maia Sandu stressed.
The Moldovan president also said that, two years and a half ago, when Nicu Popescu took over the mandate of minister, Moldova had been isolated, its future was uncertain and the European integration goals seemed far away and difficult to be achieved.
The head of state also said that, due to the professionalism and energy of Nicu Popescu, Moldova and its citizens had managed to overcome the obstacles, to transform the European dream into a palpable reality, to build solid partnerships with many states and to protect the peace.
„I thanked Mr. Popescu for everything he had done for Moldova, for each of us. I am sure that he will continue to stay with us in our effort to become part of the great European family. Thank you a lot, Nicu!,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
