Chisinau, 26 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today declared null the results of the elections for the office of mayor of the Bubuieci commune, Chisinau municipality, held on 5 and 19 November 2023. At the same time, CEC established the organization of the repeated voting for the election of the mayor from this settlement for 11 February 2024.

The voting will be carried out based on the same data from electoral lists. The candidates who participated in the polls in the first round of the ballot, on 5 November 2023, will be included in the ballot paper, in the order established by the electoral body, except for the candidate Leonid Umanet on behalf of the National Alternative Movement Political Party.

„The decision adopted by CEC comes as a result of a ruling by the Chisinau Court of Appeal from 14 December 2023, maintained through a conclusion by the Supreme Court of Justice from 22 December 2023, which established the illegal character of the administrative act on the registration of Leonid Umanet in the electoral race,’’ the Commission noted.

Also, CEC specified the fact that ‘’on 26 January, the Chisinau Court of Appeal adopted the decision which maintained the ruling of the Chisinau Court from 15 January on the rejection as groundless of the action submitted by Leonid Umanet, in which the latter demanded the ascertaining of the nullity of the decision by the electoral council of the Bubuieci electoral constituency on the fulfillment by the electoral body of the irrevocable decisions of the law courts pronounced on 22 December 2023.’’
