Deputy PM for European integration says Moldova has deepest, closest relation with EU in its modern history

Chisinau, 9 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov has referred to the developments on the country’s European agenda, at a news conference held at the government’s headquarters. The official said that the first technical stage for Moldova’s accession to the European Union – assessment of the national legislation in relation with the EU’s one – had been launched in Brussels on 7 February, the government’s communication department reported.   

„This is a long lasting process, which needs efforts and expertise in quite clear sectors, divided in 33 chapters. We are to compare our legislation with the EU’s one and find out which the differences are. The accession to the European Union, the integration into the great family of peace, democracy and freedom represents a country goal, the success of which will depend, to a great extent, on the quality of the work we will carry out at home, along with the entire society. Presently, we have the deepest and the closest relation with EU in the modern history of Moldova,’’ Cristina Gherasimov said.     

According to the deputy PM, on 21-22 February this year, the governmental delegation will return to Brussels, in order to have a first analysis of the EU’s legislation in the justice field and the fundamental rights: ‘’The first chapter with which we start the evaluation is the Justice. The negotiations on accession start from here and end here. How quickly we will get closer to EU depends on the cleaning of the justice, the existence of a rule of law state. As a European state means a state where the justice works, i.e. nobody is above the law and the rules are the same for everybody. Exactly this is what we want for the European Moldova as well.’’
