Chisinau, August 12 /MOLDPRES/- The promulgation decree and the Law on the amendment of Article 1 of Law No150/2020 for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Convention on International Railway Transport (COTIF) were published in the Official Journal and entered into force.

Adherence to this international agreement allows the Republic of Moldova to apply international standards in the field of rail transport: CIV - for the transport of passengers and CIM - for the transport of goods.

The primary objective of COTIF is to develop and strengthen collaboration in the field of rail transport by ensuring compliance with international standards. The accession of the Republic of Moldova to this convention will result in increasing the ability to compete on routes in transit of goods. The authorities estimate that, in our country, the volume of goods in transit could increase annually by 30 percent, which represents approximately 606.3 thousand tons.
