ARMENPRESS: Armenia, Iran discuss cooperation in energy, transport, infrastructure development

Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during his official visit to Tehran.

Before proceeding to the official part of the discussions, Minister Mirzoyan expressed his condolences to his Iranian counterpart on the death of his sister, according to the readout.

The ministers discussed in detail all issues related to the development of relations between Armenia and Iran, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said.

Both sides emphasized the strategic nature of the relations, which is reflected in the Government of Armenia’s 2026-2031 program and finds practical expression both in the dynamics of dialogue at the highest level and in the implementation of important projects.

Mirzoyan and Araghchi discussed cooperation programs in a number of areas, including energy, transport, and infrastructure development. They touched upon the construction of a second bridge on the Armenia-Iran border and the importance of the speedy completion of construction of the third power transmission line, as well as issues related to facilitating freight transportation between the two countries.

The Armenian and Iranian ministers exchanged views on the benefits created as a result of unblocking and on regional connectivity projects. Iran’s support for the “Crossroads of Peace” project was emphasized. Minister Mirzoyan presented the ongoing work toward the implementation of the TRIPP project and the new opportunities it offers to countries in the region.

The importance of continued cooperation in the field of public information was touched upon, including with regard to an appropriate response to unnecessary speculation in the media domain.

The ministers exchanged views on regional developments. In this context, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that Armenia is closely following the current situation, stressing the importance of efforts aimed at resolving existing issues through negotiations.

They also touched upon other issues of mutual interest.
