Rains, wind destroy house roofs, hit electricity lines in more south Moldova settlements

Chisinau, 04 July /MOLDPRES/ – The torrential rainfalls that occurred in the afternoon of Wednesday, 03 July, in the south of Moldova caused damage to more localities in Cahul, Basarabeasca, Stefan Voda, Causeni districts and Gagauzia.

According to the preliminary info submitted by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), the rainfalls and wind ravaged in Basarabeasca district. The rescuers were asked to carry out unblocking after more trees fell on roads, dwellings and gas pipelines. The strong wind pulled more slate sheets, but also damaged the roofs of dwelling houses in some localities of Basarabeasca. According to IGSU's data, there were pulled off 20 sheets of slate by the wind gusts on roofs of two residential blocks, but also on district hospital.

And in Comrat there were brought down more trees, and in village Saiti in Causeni district, the wind intensification damaged the metal tile roof of secondary school of locality. In Ceadar – Lunga city, Gagauzia, the rescuers unblocked two cars and a gas pipeline under the fallen trees.

Under these circumstances, the electricity suppliers reported disconnections in dozens of affected localities in southern districts of Moldova, including Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, Cimislia and Leova districts.

According to Red Union Fenosa, heavy gusts of wind and heavy rainfalls on 03 July, caused many wireline breaks and breakdowns as a result of breakdown of broken branches, grounded trees or wind – driven objects.

According to operative situation, the districts Causeni, Stefan Voda, Hancesti, Comrat, Cahul, Cantemir, Cimislia and Leova, following bad weather conditions, were affected by disrupted segments of local and medium voltage networks, affecting energy supply to more consumers.

The district emergency situations' commissions (CRSE) are working on spot to estimate recorded damages.
