Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/ - The export of Moldovan wine, described by experts as “national pride product,” is on an ascendant trend, reaching a maximal value in 2019 against the last five years.

According to the Public Institution National Office of Vine and Wine (IP ONVV), during 2019, both the volume of Moldovan wines’ exports, and their value were at the highest level registered since 2014 till present.

Thus, according to ONVV, „in 2019, Moldova exported 156,674 million litres of wine, up by nine per cent (or by 12,607 million litres more) against the year before. Wines have a share of 94 per cent out of all the volume exported, cognacs and the distilled alcohol – 3 per cent, fortified wines – 2 per cent, and sparkling wines – 1 per cent.”

Moldova exported wine worth 3,086 million lei to 67 countries of the world, which is by 9.2 per cent (or by 0.26 million more) against 2018. Wines brought 74 per cent of all revenues, cognacs – 20 per cent and the sparking and fortified wines – 3 per cent each.

The National Office of Vine and Wine promotes and backs, as a priority, the export of bottled wines. Thus, in 2019, the volume of wines exported to markets of Europe and Asia registered a constant growth. During 2019, Romania continued to be a strategic market and on the top of the ranking of countries which import the Wine of Moldova, both in terms of the exports’ volume and the revenues generated. The ranking comprises such countries as Poland, Russia, China, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Canada and the USA.

The exports of bulk wine registered also a significant increase in 2019 and reached 108,002 million litres. The main destination of the bulk wine exports remains Belarus – a market where 43 per cent of all bulk wine is exported and from which 39 per cent of all incomes are gained.

The figures show that, Belarus, Georgia, Russia, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Romania, Germany, Ukraine, China and Italy are the top ten countries where Moldova exported most bulk wine. “The increases of the volumes of bulk wine for export are due to the fact that the grapes harvest was above the annual average one,” ONVV specialists said.

In 2019, Moldovan wines for the first time ever were exported to Afghanistan, Syria, Toho, Guam. At the same time, after a break of several years, the Wine of Moldova again reached consumers’ tables from Australia, Norway and Libya.
