Moldovan government authorizes construction of two cogeneration stations

Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/ - The government today authorized the construction of two new cogeneration stations with an overall capacity of 55 MW of electric energy and at least 43 Gcal/h of thermal energy. They will replace the former CET-1 (Power-and-heat station -1), put into operation in back in 1951 and will contribute to the enhancement of the capacity of domestic production of electric energy and the country’s energy security.   

According to the Energy Ministry, the stations will work on internal combustion engine, which represents a flexible technology with potential also for the balancing of Moldova’s energy system, needed for the development of the renewable energy sources. At the same time, the new stations will contribute to the development of the heating system from the Chisinau municipality and to the efficient and reliable supply of consumers with thermal energy.    

The construction of the two stations is planned till late 2025 and is financially backed by the World Bank, within the Project to improve the efficiency of the centralized heating system in Chisinau (PIESACET-2). The value of the works is of 92 million euros.
