Energocom to buy natural gas from Greece as test
Chisinau, April 13 /MOLDPRES/- Energocom is going to purchase today 24 MWh of natural gas (about 2250 cubic meters), 1 MW per hour, from the Greek gas operator DEPA as a test. The gas will be delivered through Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline and transmitted to Moldovagaz.
According to Energocom, the price is 45 euros/MWh, which is about 477 euros per thousand cubic meters. However, this does not include transport costs and other logistics expenses. For comparison, on March 31, Energocom purchased 1 MWh from the Romanian Commodity Exchange, also as a test, at a price of 48.82 euros.
The purpose of the purchase from Greece is to see how the logistics chain works: the reservation of capacities in each country through which the gas will transit – Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and the nominations by the operators of the transport system at each entry and exit point. All this is necessary to avoid possible financial risks in the case of larger quantities.
Last week, acting director of Energocom company Victor Bânzari signed a cooperation framework contract with the DEPA manager in Athens, based on which other volumes of natural gas can be purchased in the future.
The company also bought 1 MW of electricity for today at 100 euros from the Bulgarian operator Nomad. Thus, Energocom wants to test the new route and how logistics operations work. Moldova has imported electricity from Romania and Ukraine so far.
