Implementation of recently approved legislative initiatives seriously threatens financial stability of Moldova - IMF
Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/- IMF Resident Representative to Moldova Rodgers Chawani made a statement today saying "the implementation of legislative initiatives, recently approved by the Parliament seriously threatens the macroeconomic and financial stability of Moldova, which is already severely affected by the COVID-19."
The statement also reads "in the context of the new program supported by the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), financial support from the IMF will only be granted if there is an unequivocal commitment by the Republic of Moldova to ensure the irreversibility of progress so far, as well as broad political support for the ambitious governance and institutional reform agenda agreed with the IMF mission this year. "
Recently, MPs of PSRM, Shor and For Moldova Platform have passed more laws criticized by the parliamentary opposition. Today, acting President Igor Dodon promulgated them. These include the so-called "billion law", the law on reducing the retirement age, the laws on status of Gagauzia and the law on functioning of languages.
