PM discusses with citizens of south Moldova village

Prime Minister Dorin Recean visited Colibasi village, southern Cahul district, where he discussed with residents and visited social infrastructure facilities that have been modernized with the support of the government and foreign partners. They include the Community Centre, the local agricultural market, the art school, several rehabilitated street segments, as well as the Colibasi-Vulcanesti road – one of the largest and most expected projects by locals.

All investments made so far and the plans for the upcoming period were discussed at PM's meeting with the villagers at the Colibasi mayoralty. “Projects that improve the citizens' lives show our concern for localities. We must maintain the European direction, in order to continue developing our villages and towns,” Dorin Recean said.

The prime minister visited several important projects. The latest major project is the complete renovation of the Community Centre, which cost around 7 million lei, with windows, seats replaced and a modern heating system installed. At the same time, the PM went to the regional market, modernized with the support of the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with investments of over 200,000 euros funded by the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions programme.

In the last four years, the town hall, music school and high school have been renovated and the former cinema was transformed into a multifunctional hall. Moreover, through the European Village programme, the construction of the aqueduct for a sector in Colibasi was completed, with a project value of about 2.9 million lei. Thus, all villagers will be provided with water.

Significant investments were also made in road repairs, the most important project being the G141 Colibasi-Vulcanesti road, about 8.7 km long. The works were completed at 93 per cent. In 2023, an additional 4.4 kilometers of this road were repaired from the Road Fund, with a total allocation of approximately 68 million lei.

According to Colibasi mayor, Ion Dolganiuc, the renovation of the regional road will improve access to the settlement, and over 17,000 residents and economic agents of the area will benefit from safe travel conditions and access to about 5,000 hectares of farmland on a European road.
