Moldovan authorities condemn illegal military activities in Security Zone
The Moldovan authorities have noted with concern the information appearing in the Transnistrian press on organisation by Tiraspol authorities in collaboration with the Operational Group of Russian Forces illegally stationed in the country, of a so-called reenactment of Iași-Chișinău operation from World War II, the Bureau for Reintegration Policies has reported.
The event, abusively organized on the banks of the Dniester River, in the vicinity of the city of Tiraspol, involves about 16 units of military equipment, 13 artillery pieces, blank ammunition and pyrotechnic materials. The unilateral military actions carried out within the Security Zone represent a blatant challenge to the special regime established for this zone, undermining the peacekeeping mission on the Dniester.
Moldova's delegation to the Joint Control Commission, through its component in the Joint Military Command, requested that military observers be sent to the site to document the situation. The request was blocked by representatives of the military structures representing Tiraspol and the Russian Federation.
The Moldovan delegation to the Joint Control Commission firmly condemns these provocations that endanger stability and security in the region and demands the immediate end to all military actions in the Security Zone. It calls for strict compliance with the commitments taken under the 21 July 1992 Agreement on the principles of peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.
