Chisinau, 5 October /MOLDPRES/ - Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici has informed about how decision-makers would select the segments due to be repaired within the Good Roads for Moldova 2 programme, due to be implemented in 2019.

In an interview given exclusively to MOLDPRES, Chiril Gaburici said that the citizens should be the ones to decide which streets of their settlements are to be modernized. Consultations will be organized by local authorities and priority will have the road segments put up by a “representative number” of citizens.

The decision was taken following an analysis of the implementation of the Good Roads for Moldova programme throughout this year. “We came across difficulties and irregularities. Learning the lessons, we now moved further with the programme Good Roads for Moldova 2. One of the lessons we have learned represented the problems of communication between the local public authorities of first and second levels or between citizens and mayoralty. For instance, a decision was taken to repair a road segment in a centralized way, while people wanted something else,” the minister said.

According to the official, the criteria of selection are equal for everybody and do not depend on the political affiliation of mayors.

In 2019, 2,600 km of roads will be restored in Moldova. As much as 1,500 km of this will be included in the Good Roads for Moldova 2 programme. Two billion lei will be earmarked for this in all.
