Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has expressed full support for the accession of the United Kingdom to the Agreement on Government Procurement, at a 27 November informal meeting of the Committee on Government Procurement of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

According to the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service, the unveiling of Moldova’s position at the informal meetings from 17 October and 27 November shows that Moldova did not block the complex process of United Kingdom’s joining this Agreement. Within the Informal Committee from 27 November 2018, the Great Britain received the agreement of principle on the accession in national capacity to the international market of government procurement and a textual decision will be approved in next December, following negotiations between the United Kingdom and a small number of states.

Moldova’s delegation to the World Trade Organization congratulated representatives of the Great Britain for the efforts made and professionalism proved in getting a consensus of principle in only six months after submitting the application on joining the Agreement on Government Procurement, which represents a first ever event in the history of WTO.

To turn to good account the new dimensions of the political dialogue, the commercial economic and social potential, Moldova and the United Kingdom develop a solid, dynamic and mutually advantageous relation, including through the creation of friendly conditions for the native economic agents and Moldovans’ community from the United Kingdom, given that the London authorities are to adopt new migration policies after the Brexit.

Note: the current practice in the world trade system sees that the process of negotiations of one WTO member to join the Agreement on Government Procurement can last at least 2-3 years. Moldova joined this Agreement in 2016.
