More than 4,000 policemen to ensure public order in Moldova during winter holidays

Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/ - More than 4,000 Interior Ministry (MAI) employees will ensure the public order on the period of the winter holidays. A representative of the public security department at the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Daniel Mazepa, made statements to this effect at a news conference today.  

According to Mazepa, the number of police employees will be doubled. “The rate of offences increases on this period; therefore, citizens must be cautious. I urge people to avoid dark places and move in groups. Also on the period, the number of domestic violence cases increases, especially against the background of the alcohol consumption. Therefore, in case of conflicts, we urge witnesses to immediate announce law-enforcers. We also ask parents to supervise children. When you leave the home, close the dwelling good or ask neighbours to supervise the dwelling. At the same time, people who consumed alcohol are urged to avoid the bearing of arms,” Mazepa noted.    

For his part, a representative of the National Patrol Inspectorate, Pavel Apostol, stressed that, on the period of the winter holidays, the number of traffic accidents was rising. “Most often, these accidents occur because of exceeding the speed limit and driving drunk. On the period of the holidays, inspectors will organize more patrolling actions. The police crews will be on the segments with increased risk of accidents. At the same time, we urge drivers to park regularly and observe the road signs,” Apostol said.

The head of the operational management directorate at the Carabineer Troops Department, Dumitru Scurtu, unveiled more recommendations to ensure public order. “We urge the people who participate in events to observe indications by law-enforcers, not trigger conflicts, avoid consumption of alcoholic drinks and appearance drunk in public places. Also, it is important that people are attentive to the use of pyrotechnical objects. If needed, we urge citizens to appeal to law-enforcers or call the Single Emergency phone number 112,” Scurtu noted.  

IGP data shows that, last year, more than 1,700 thefts and about 130 robberies were recorded on the period 15 December - 15 January. At the same time, 49 children became offences’ victims.
