Moldova, Romania to sign agreement on cooperation in tourism

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/- The cabinet today decided to initiate negotiations on the draft agreement between the Moldovan and Romanian governments on cooperation in tourism.

The Agreement provides for the development of cooperation between public institutions and economic agents in the tourism sector in Moldova and Romania, by creating favorable conditions for attracting investments in order to support and develop tourism in accordance with the national legislation of each party; establishment of joint ventures in tourism; exchange of experts, groups and delegations of experts in tourism.

Also, it sees providing mutual assistance in opening tourist information offices in Moldova and Romania.

The new proposed agreement will replace the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Romania on cooperation in tourism, signed in Bucharest on 16 November 2005.

According to the National Statistics Bureau, the number of Romanian tourists who visited Moldova grew by over 6 thousand in 2017 and ranks first among the countries whose citizens visited Moldova as tourists. Last year, more than half (55.2 per cent) of foreigners crossing the state border were from Romania (3.9 million people).
