Two advanced spins to work at Chisinau-based water-purifying station

Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau residents will get rid of the insanitary smell, emanated by the mud accumulated at the water purifying station from the capital. Starting from today, the mud accumulated will no longer be dehydrated in geotube bags, but will be processed much more quickly with the help of two spins, due to work 24 hours. The investment cost the water provider about 16 million lei.

The first spin was set in August 2018 and after a period of testing, the second spin was installed too.

The director general of the water supplier, Valeriu Mesca, said that, although the investments were big, they are justified, as they will bring considerable savings in the long run. “We plan to gradually modernize the entire process of purifying the residual waters. The spins will allow us treating the mud according to the European standards,” Mesca noted.

Attending the launch event, the acting general mayor of Chisinau, Ruslan Codreanu, said that the setting of the spins meant the mud’s treatment according to the European practices and as a result, the capital’s residents would no longer feel the unpleasant smell.

According to Apa-Canal Chisinau, in the six months after the setting of the first spin, about 208,000 cubic metres of mud has been processed. At the same time, the areas for stocking the mud have considerably diminished and thanks to the processing way, the mud treated does not have such a high humidity and can be used in agriculture, without being deposited in geotube bags. After the processing of mud in spins, its volume decreased by 45 per cent. Annually, 144 disposable geotube bags were used for the treatment of mud, which cost more than 7.5 million lei, being deposited on an area of about four hectares. Moreover, on the period when the mud stocked in geotube bags was carried, an unpleasant smell was spreading in Chisinau.

About 15 tons of household waste is daily stocked at grills from the purifying station.

The restoration of the water purifying station and the new line for treating mud was launched in January 2017, with the process due to end in 2021.
