Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/- Following the parliamentary elections held yesterday, the constituency electoral councils will submit to the Central Election Commission (CEC) the reports on the results of the constituency elections within 48 hours after the closure of the polling stations, until 26 February.
Subsequently, within five days, by 3 March, the CEC is to prepare a report containing data on the number of voters included in the electoral rolls, the number of voters who voted, the number of ballots declared invalid, the number of valid votes cast for each candidate.
The report on the voting results will be sent to the Constitutional Court, which have five days to confirm or deny the legality of elections.
Constitutional expert Nicolae Osmochescu said that the Constitutional Court will examine the reports and if it finds that the elections were held in accordance with the law and there were no violations that could essentially influence the results of the elections, then it validates them. If the court determines that in the voting process there have been violations that can significantly influence election results, then the court has the option of not validating the election. "In this case, again elections are declared no earlier than 60 days and no later than 90 days," Osmochescu said.
The parliamentary elections were held yesterday in Moldova. After processing 97 per cent of reports, the Party of Socialists got 31.36 per cent of votes, ACUM bloc – 26.15 per cent, the Democratic Party of Moldova – 24.02 per cent and Shor Party – 8.46 per cent.
